Canonry of Worcester Cathedral

The Queen has approved that the Reverend Georgina Ann Byrne, MA, MPhil, PhD, Team Vicar of Halas, in the diocese of Worcester and Dean of Women s Ministry, be appointed to a Residentiary Canonry in the Cathedral Church of Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary, Worcester in succession to the Reverend Canon Joy Dawn Tetley, MA, PhD. This post will be held in conjunction with the post of Director of Ordinands for the diocese of Worcester.

Notes for the Editors

The Reverend Dr Byrne (aged 37), was educated first at Trinity College Oxford University and studied for her MPhil at Corpus Christi College Cambridge. Her doctorate was awarded by King s College London, her thesis concerned ideas of the afterlife in the late Victorian period. She trained for the Ministry at Westcott House, Cambridge. She served her first curacy at West Bromwich All Saints in the diocese of Lichfield from 1997 to 2001. From 1997 to 1998 she was also Honorary Assistant Chaplain at Corpus Christi College Cambridge. From 2001 to 2004 she was Chaplain to the Bishop of Kensington in the diocese of London, and also Honorary Curate of Twickenham St Mary. Since 2004 she has been Team Vicar of Halas in the Worcester diocese and Dean of Women s Ministry from 2005.

Dr Byrne is married to Tim Clarke, a barrister and Non-stipendiary priest in the diocese of Birmingham. Her interests include running, dressmaking, and singing.
