This Order amends and revokes legislation which has been applied to the Falkland Islands through Orders in Council. The Order is being made because the Falkland Islands Government are bringing into force new legislation, the Falkland Islands Maritime Ordinance 2017 (“Maritime Ordinanceâ€), to replace the provisions being revoked in article 3. The amendments being made by the provisions in the Schedule will ensure that the existing legislation will continue to apply to South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. The Order will come into force at the same time as the Maritime Ordinance.
These Regulations are made in exercise of the powers conferred by section 8(1) of the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 (c. 16) in order to address failures of retained EU law to operate effectively and other deficiencies (in particular under section 8(2)(a), (d) and (g)) arising from the withdrawal of the UK from the European Union.
This Order implements certain provisions of Council Directive 2013/59/Euratom of 5 December 2013 laying down basic safety standards for protection against the dangers arising from exposure to ionising radiation, and repealing Directives 89/618/Euratom, 90/641/Euratom, 96/29/Euratom, 97/43/Euratom and 2003/122/Euratom (“the Directiveâ€).
These Regulations amend section 10(2) of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 (c. 37) in relation to England.
