These Regulations make miscellaneous amendments to legislation in the field of sea fisheries and sea fish conservation to reflect the repeal, amendment and replacement of certain EU instruments relating to fisheries conservation and to amend out of date references to such instruments.
These Regulations amend the Spirit Drinks Regulations 2008 (S.I. 2008/3206) and the Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009 (S.I. 2009/2890).
These Regulations amend the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (c. 69) (“the Actâ€) in order further to implement in England and Wales requirements contained in the Agreement on international humane trapping standards between the European Community, Canada and the Russian Federation, which was approved by the European Community in Council Decision 98/142/EC (OJ No. L 42, 14.2.98, p.40).
These Regulations are made in exercise of the powers conferred by the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 (c. 16) in order to address failures of retained EU law to operate effectively and other deficiencies (in particular deficiencies referred to in section 8(2)(a), (b), (c), (d), (e) and (g)) arising from the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union.
