We’re making it easier and quicker to report an error

We’re making it easier and quicker for you to report an error in the register, title plan, copy document or search of the index map (SIM), helping you get corrections resolved faster and helping us to support you more efficiently.

Based on extensive user research with both professional customers and members of the public, we have created a clearer, more streamlined ‘Report an error’ form.

These improvements support our commitment to improving customer experience and simplifying and improving our processes.

Why we’ve created the form

Customers told us that reporting an error wasn’t always as straightforward as it could be. We’ve listened.

Our new digital form is designed to:

make the process smoother and faster be clear about what information we need from you reduce the need for us to come back for more details enable us to resolve queries more quickly

By gathering the right information upfront, we can reduce delays and improve average processing times.

We are also introducing new, more direct routes to access the form, making it easier to find and encouraging customers to use it as their first choice, rather than emailing or calling us.

How this will help you

Using the new form means:

a faster and simpler way to report an error clearer guidance on what you need to provide fewer interruptions and requests for more information a quicker resolution of your issue Is it an error or simply an update?

If you’ve changed your name or contact address, or your mortgage has been fully paid off (‘discharged’), you should let HM Land Registry know so we can update the register

Find out how to update the register if your details have changed.

How to report an error

To give you maximum flexibility, you can reach our new ‘Report an error’ form by:

starting as usual via HM Land Registry Contact Us and selecting the ‘error reporting’ options going directly to the Report an error in a register, title plan or document section on our landing page contacting us by post or phone, if you prefer – see our How to report an error guidance page for full details How to complete the form

When completing the online form please provide as much information as possible – for example the title number, any HM Land Registry reference and relevant documents. This helps us resolve the issue more quickly.

The new form is also available in Welsh.

What happens next

We treat requests to correct errors as a priority and aim to complete corrections within 20 working days. Some more complex cases may take longer if, for instance, we need more information to investigate the error.

We will let you know when we’ve put it right or explain why not. And if we make changes to the register or title plan as a result, we’ll send you an updated copy.

Anyone can report an error, but we may need to ask for more information if you are not the registered owner.
