Overview of the role
The Judicial Appointments Commission has been asked to identify 128 candidates to recommend for the post of Recorder. Recorders deal with cases within a mid-range of complexity and legal difficulty across the criminal, family, and civil jurisdictions.
Who can apply?Applications are invited from solicitors, barristers, and Fellows of CILEX in England and Wales with at least seven years post qualification legal experience. In addition, candidates should be able to offer a reasonable length of service, usually of four years, before the statutory retirement age of 75.
Vacancies are anticipated across all jurisdictions. Experience of the jurisdictions is not a pre-requisite for appointment and recommendations will be made solely on merit. Final deployment decisions will be made by the Senior Presiding Judge.
