Upcoming Remote Participation Guidance for the criminal courts

You may have seen that updated guidance on the use of remote participation was published last week for Civil and Family courts and for Tribunals jurisdictions.

In due course, the Lady Chief Justice will be issuing revised guidance on the use of live links in criminal courts. The revised guidance aims to:

Achieve a more consistent and streamlined national approach to the listing of hearings with live link directions. Encourage greater use of remote participation where appropriate, including by identifying hearings which should ordinarily be conducted remotely. Simplify the processes for making and dealing with applications.

The guidance will apply to the Crown Court and the Magistrates’ Court. There has been extensive engagement with members of the judiciary and with criminal justice partners throughout its development.
